Concluding 2023!

Ending the year dog sitting in Waima, Auckland.

2023, what a year that you have been!

I turned 30, got married, completed a Masters and am now moving to another country and learning another trade.

I feel a sense of accomplishment and pride at what I have achieved both professionally and personally.

Completing a Masters of Dance Studies was a significant academic and artistic achievement of mine. My practice-led research took commitment, perseverance and risk, and I couldn't have done it without the support of my supervisors who were with me every step of the way. It was also important to be surrounded by fellow students who shared their experiences and research with me and encouraged me to keep it up!

Also being awarded The Gavin and Susan Walker Postgraduate Scholarship provided me with the financial assistance I needed to completely dedicate myself to my research. I am also very thankful for my parents for their love and support, not to mention providing me with a rent free office and garage to use, and to my husband who didn't mind me waking up at 4:30am to start writing.

Receiving this grade made all my hard work seem worthwhile.

I am now looking forward to graduating with my classmates in May 2024!

Alongside my studies I had the privilege of working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the dance studies department. Being one of two GTA's for this course was a fantastic challenge that supported my artistic research and practice. This role has taught me about the skills needed to become a lecturer and academic staff.

The final 101 class for 2023, and also Janaína and my last class teaching together after two semesters.

More recently I have started my Certificate IV in Personal Training with Fit Futures Academy so that I can work in the fitness industry. I will soon be gaining work experience at a local gym as part of my studies and finding my area of interest. I am enjoying building more strength and muscle and learning about the science of human body as well as feeling more confident at the gym.

Getting married was a HUGE moment in my personal life and I am looking forward to moving with Byrd to Melbourne next year and starting the next chapter of our lives together!

Happy New Year!!!! xx
